You do know the source bundles can be configured to contain exactly the same ? anyway. what we got now for source dump zips is getting nice and simple so less of worry.

That you can go grab old SHA in github after you push forced just means github have not garbage collected their repos yet.
That push forces are not allowed does not mean it does not happen (for bad or valid reasons).

That we even have bash code for creating md5sum when maven supports it natively is for me the weird part (http://nicoulaj.github.io/checksum-maven-plugin/index.html)
