FYI, I just noticed exactly this today - I installed devstudio [1], opened the New Server wizard, and immediately I got 3 errors in the Error Log view:
Invalid site reference %updateSiteURL in feature com.pramati.eclipse.feature.
And there are a few update sites added as well.
