Today, I was finally able to make this work. With the help of Xavier. Until today, I was not aware of the "Enable Connection" button that you need to click when you start the cdk server after it has been stopped.
So yes, I can confirm that it works now, but the UI is not ideal. I created this BZ to improve the UI:
