Looking for an adapter is a good idea and proposed patch was merged upstream into Eclipse master (Oxygen, June 2017), I'll try to have it part of 4.6.1 (September 2016).

I believe the semantics of "getSelectedPage()" makes that the editor shouldn't return the included sourceEditor as part of this method. The page is defined as the whole content of the tab, not as a subpart of it. Changing the implementation and assuming a different definition for "page" may cause other issues.
