If it's effectively a breaking API change, I'd suggest a path change too so that the old cruft need not interfere with the new stuff. That's what we did for JBDS 8 -> 9, switching from /updates/8.0/stable to /9.0/stable/updates/.

Thus you might want http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/examples/4.4/ or http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/examples/10.0/ etc.
