I never managed to reproduce this issue.
Also, the stacktrace seems not in sync with the current code, and there is a "catch" block in the code that should simply have returned false in case of a NPE.
I believe the version you had was somehow erroneous (picking the code from the previous "playground" plugins.

Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce it.
