I tried this scenario several times yesterday when we investigated JBIDE-24222 and it worked properly - in fact this was a workaround to that issue - starting cdk 3 with xhyve currently fails in Eclipse, but if you start in Terminal first and then in Eclipse, it will work.

Now I tried the same with virtualbox and it still works for me correctly - I cannot reproduce this service-manager error. Can you double check that you weren't accidentally playing with a cdk 2 adapter? I can see you have both set up.
