[~budhrg] when I start the minishift binary you provided, I get an error:

Error starting the cluster: Error attempting to download and cache oc: Cannot get the OpenShift release version v3.6.173.0.5: GET https://api.github.com/repos/openshift/origin/releases/tags/v3.6.173.0.5: 404 Not Found []

Just FYI.

But the MINISHIFT_NO_PROGRESSBAR env var works - when I added it to the launch config, there was no spinning during cdk launch.

[~rob.stryker], I guess you can prepare a PR to add this variable now.
