* script that would ease the pain of cross-platform: Now that we have python on most of the platforms (except Win7) [1] we could port to that so that the same script can be used on win/lin/mac. 

* os matrix narrowed to rhel7: sounds good. I've updated the jobs to only use *rhel7* & *win7vbox* for now, and added a TODO to the job description pointing back at this JIRA. That will reduce the load on Jenkins for combos we know will fail.
