FWIW, I didn't need to make any code changes in the Platform upstream.

BTW, for M3 it looks like we will also getting upgraded org.objectweb.asm.* bundles ... 6.1.1 --> 6.2.0

They are in the latest orbit repo already: http://download.eclipse.org/tools/orbit/downloads/drops/S20180730183850/
