Thanks Crispin, that looks like it will be a much appreciated contribution. When you think you are ready, feel free to raise a pull request and that will run our CI tests on your contribution on all our dev supported platforms (linux el5 32 64, linux el6 32 64 and windows 2008 32) which should give us enough confidence to merge it.

Plus, as Amos says, he and I can review it too.
