Actually we should to something generic to covert kubernetes/openshift too in https://github.com/iSma/tomcat-in-the-cloud/ we use  a GET /api/v1/namespaces/tomcat-in-the-cloud/pods (with ssl certificates and a a token) see https://github.com/jfclere/tomcatPI/tree/master/cloud for more...
