I don't know the details of the changes from 3.1.1 to 3.1.3 but what  
used to take 1 millisecond now takes 3 milliseconds: the action is  
approximately en and de crypting as well as serialiizing and  
deserializing, sending and receiving, reading and writing, and  
proessing 8192 bytes.
