Does Netty work as a servlet container?

Hi,

New to Netty. I'm about to deploy Solr, which is bundled with Jetty and can run in any servlet container.

Can Netty work as a servlet container? If so, does it make sense to deploy Solr on Netty? 

I'm mainly interested in improving performance, reducing latency & reducing memory/CPU load. Would there be any major difference between Netty & Jetty in this case?
