Client side disconnect/reconnect?

Hi,
   I would like to disconnect my client every so often and immediately
reconnect?. Are there any examples of doing that?. Say i don't want to
restart the process but do a disconnect/reconnect every hour?. I can handle
the timers but what is the clean way to disconnect and what are the steps
involved?
