NIO one-to-one connection read threads?

I guess I never read the java doc for NioServerSocketChannelFactory, at
least I never noticed the version that let you control the number of worker
threads. I just assumed that setting the workerExecutor like this
new ThreadPoolExecutor(1, maxThreadCount, 60L, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new
SynchronousQueue<Runnable>(), new NamedThreadPoolFactory("ASLexec"), this)
allowed me to control the size of the thread pool.
Reading the java doc now, understanding how it works, I still feel this is a
pretty subtle restriction on the two parameters workerExecutor and
workerCount...and the consequence of not observing this relationship is not
100% obvious to me.
Anyway thanks for the explanation.
