i noticed the issue http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/RF-1106 and yes it works in 3.1.2 but if columngroup comes into play you have the old behavier reappears. that means <td> is generated within the table header instead of <th>

example

        <rich:datatable...>
		<f:facet name="header">
		 	<rich:columnGroup>
				<rich:column>
					<h:outputText value="Preis, &#8364;"  />
				</rich:column>
                               ....
                </f:facet>
         </rich:datatable>
