If one letter long id is passed to HtmlUtil.expandClientIds method, it is not matched by the pattern, and therefore not expanded.

Example.

<h:panelGroup id="a">

To attach to it, I use #a selector, but it doesn't find any component.
When I change id to a longer value, like "aa", everything works
