As you could see from related issue:

Corrected behaviour of the subject attributes is : 

if the value of the "attached" attribute is true, component is attached to the component, specified in the "attachTo" attribute or to the parent component, if "attachTo" is not defined.

addition
if attached = false - components doesn't attached to any element and can be activated only via JS API.
