I am seeing the same problem.  I've tested it on two separate Macbook Pros here.  Each is running Leopard and Firefox 2.0.0.12.  When you click the link on the demo site referenced above Firefox completely locks up.  I've also attempted to place a modalPanel in a page of my own using the Richfaces 3.1.4 and that locked Firefox as well, whereas modalPanel from 3.1.3 works fine.
