I think the parameter works for me, even with MyFaces (1.2.4). I debugged the AjaxStateManager in HttpSession with a heap profiler - there´s an int-Variable "numberOfViews" which has the size of 15 by default. After the setting this size of this variable is 2 (which is what i set) and the instance (after all the HttpSession) it is consuming less heap.
