I applied Stephen Friedrich's patches described here:

http://dev.jquery.com/ticket/4218

plus a couple more related to matching on either 'HTML' or 'html'

to the jquery.js file bundled with richfaces-impl-3.3.2.CR1.jar

It works for me in what I've trying to do combining the use of RichFaces and jQuery.
