So there was not reply from Open EJB in a week.

I was also looking in apache tomcat mailing lists. I found [this|https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50380] issue, which already resolved as wont't fix.

It says that Tomcat devs are currently only little interested in Maven and that the only chance is to provide patch for this. However it is not guaranteed even with the patch.

IMHO it is worth looking into the patch, it should not be too difficult, it can be similar to the Open EJB approach.
