[rules-dev] Don't use Java 6 only methods for now, like String.isEmpty()

Yea, or get hudson to build with JDK 5 (which is probably easier and 
just as less likely to stop people commit them, but at least we catch 
them faster).
The real problem is that our guvnor modeshape connector only builds with 
jdk 6.
Although the latest modeshape might run with JDK 5 again, I 'd have to 
check.

Secretly I am hoping we can reopen the "switch to JDK 6 for drools 6" 
discussion :)
It's been almost a year since we had a "switch to JDK 6" discussion.
