This issue is fixed in JPA2. There is no simple work around in JPA1. 
However we need to keep JPA1 compatability for a little while longer. 
I'm wondering if we can some how support both, via xml ORM files and 
selecting the right one depending on the JPA in the classpath. It's not 
something I've tried before, so if anyone else has any ideas let me know.
