Good points....thanks for the insight.  Would it be possible/feasible to move those things like the login-required and no-conversation-view to applied from the new view as well?  That way both render and redirect would be consistent and the attributes for the new page would come from the new page's definition.  That seems most logical to me.  If I put "no-conversation-view" on a page I would expect that for this view not the previous view.
