If you wil use in Seam 1.3 Sun's jsf implementation then you  will use jsf-portlet from https://jsfportletbridge.dev.java.net bridge, I guess. So, it would be possible to extend FacesPortlet class. Other possible solution is maybe in SeamPhaseListener?
