That is a time series chart.  Are you looking specifically for time series support?  There is not a generic mechanism for omitting arbitrary labels in jfreechart.  The best solution I can see is to create a custom Axis implementation for this, but I think in your case you probably want some combination of time series and rotated labels.  (which are now directly supported)
