I did some more thinking about getOrCreate and I realized my main concern is that it performs opposing actions (one pull, one push). If we have to go with an either or naming approach, I much prefer defineOrRevise(), defineOrUpdate, createOrUpdate() or createOrRevise. These two words are both write operations and move in the same direction.
