Van Halbert commented on TEIID-464:
-----------------------------------

based on the current direction of shared installation, the following are the identified problem areas:

- installing ODBC: the installation becomes problematic because it doesn't just plugin, the user will have to be aware of which host directory their installing into, unless it's installed outside of MM, and doing that has other implications/issues.
- utilities (i.e., configimport/export) will have issues because if the utility cannot use the adminapi (as in this config case) and require the user to login, then the utility will have to make some assumptions (or make the user pass it in) as to the location of the hosts metamatrix.properties file to use in order to get the database connection info.

> We need to decide if/how we're going to support the shared
> installation option. With the changes to what's stored in the
> metamatrix.properties (i.e., host properties and config.name), this
> now complicates how we'll install (i.e., system host setup and odbc) /
> support this feature.
