Data "Service" Entitlements? please describe.

Can somebody explain, how this is different from current offering of entitlements based on "roles" from the JAAS security domain? JAAS has login modules for LDAP and Database (thru picketlink). It is user configuration at this point to choose which authentication mechanism to choose, and entitlement control fall out of that.
