It does seem that this is situation 1 above since a view is being used.  In which case the previous (5.2 er3) results were likely in error.  The 5.1 results should be representative, but possibly do not represent proper use of projection/streaming and thus would be prone to OOM errors with larger documents and higher query loads.  

We certainly can look at improving performance, but I take exception to the idea that a marginal performance issue in just one execution path of an extremely large product would constitute a blocker at this stage.  It seems like a break down in process.  My recommendation is to target this for an sp1 or patch rather than holding up the release.
