We have a couple of issues here.  The first is that we don't have a notion in embedded of translator types - only instances.  And having the vdb translator overrides necessarily depends on the concept of types.

To support the same facilities as the server we'll need to pre-register all of the available translators and make refactor the type logic from the server.

Another path would be to just offer a scoping mechanism for the addTranslator methods and still disallow vdb translator overrides.
