Steven Hawkins commented on TEIID-5308:
---------------------------------------

> My only question is are we willing to correct the behavior of ENV with next major revision, or keep as is?

There are only two things that make sense. This proposal is to add two new functions and correct the docs for the old env function - we should not change the behavior given how long this has been the implementation.

The only other possibility was mentioned on the forum topic, to have the env function also look at the environment properties - but it would need to give preference to the system properties for backwards compatibility.

> the ENV() function, contrary to what its name suggests, doesn't look for environment variables but looks for system properties instead.
