implementation details:
1) Currently, I use a custom (application-specific) Java system property for this. The property is setup differently depending on which entry point my app has (Main method, Osgi activator or ServletContextListener.
2) I am not sure how I will implement this yet. I might use lookup and see what different implementatons are available on the classpath or what services are registered under OSGI ?
