It's actually more than that. If we use Java 5, then we might use methods that were introduced in Java 5 (that has happened to me more than once as the commit logs will attest ^_^)...
Generics are a good way to simplify some of our utilities classes though (see all the efforts we put into type safety).
I haven't used annotations that much yet to see what they could bring to us...
