But you are using s:decorate... or you want all your messages displayed together...

Anyway, the problem (I think) is that your ajax stuff is causing multiple messages to be enqueued, but renderered all at once.  Try putting the messages component into an ajax-rerendered region.  Or don't use a:support if you aren't using ajax validation.
