Is this a problem? They asked on the bug whether this approach was an issue for some use-case and nobody complained about it.
Who would like to have sources without having binary? The output of build of feature A is a feature A and a feature A.source containing feature A, then you are sure your source feature will install correctly together with the right version of binary feature. IMHO, this is rather a very nice implementation than a :(
