However, in ESB 4.2 architecture we have a new way to consume/produce web services. This example is still nice in that it shows off the "native client" support and use of the MessageDeliveryAdapter for sync invocations of ESB services with no gateway usage. Renaming to "native_client", other native client examples can also be added to this quickstart in the future.
