The setup is really quite simple.
We currently have two CI images, one running linux and the other running windows. Each is
executed using ant (via continuum).
Each image runs a local instance of AS, purely for JMS, and requires access to an FTP
server.
The repository is at https://svn.labs.jboss.com/labs/jbossesb/trunk and the tests are
currently executed, from the top level directory, using the following command.
ant -f integration-build.xml
-Dorg.jboss.esb.properties=/home/integration/product.properties
The property file referenced on the command line overrides those committed into the
repository, specifying the configuration of the ftp account.
The linux configuration is currently
org.jboss.esb.build.deprecation=yes
org.jboss.esb.build.optimize=off
org.jboss.esb.build.frominstall=no
org.jboss.esb.build.debug=yes
org.jboss.esb.build.tests=no

At present we do not restart the app servers as we do not deploy anything into them, it is
purely for JMS.

BTW I checked out the windows CI last night and found that there were a lot of entries
missing from JNDI.
Once the work/tmp/data directories were cleaned up the AS came back up cleanly and all
tests passed.
Perhaps this is a good reason to start AS as part of the CI build :)

Yes, the ant task I am referreing is from AS build. (server:start and sever:stop). Can you
add that in build? I guess since it does not deploy anything, it does not matter which AS
version is being used as long as jms queue A,B,C are there.

Hudson had some problem exiting the build process when it was configured to start and stop
running jboss instance that was configured through its shell script UI. So, I have
temporarilty started jboss in the background so that testsuite can run until we start
jboss from testsuite itself or I import those tasks in hudson. I have set
jbossesb-tests@googlegroups.com,jboss-qa-internal(a)redhat.com as buiild notificaiton
recipients.
The last build failed org.jboss.internal.soa.esb.couriers.tests.CourierIntegrationTest
because of java.net.UnknownHostException: ftp.ncl.jboss.com: ftp.ncl.jboss.com. What is
the correct ftp address? Currently, I start the testsuite with ant -f
integration-build.xml

There are four properties that you need to configure for ftp access. You should change
these to match whichever ftp server is accessible in your local environment.
org.jboss.esb.test.ftp.hostname - The ftp server hostname
org.jboss.esb.test.ftp.user - The user name for login
org.jboss.esb.test.ftp.pwd - The password for login
org.jboss.esb.test.ftp.dir - The base directory for the tests
Kurt has recently asked for the build to be changed to use an embedded ftp server but
overriding in this fashion will still be supported.
Which email address is hudson using to sent reports to the jbossesb-tests mailing list?

I thought ftp.ncl.jboss.com is what you want me to use. I would have to to see which ftp
server I can use. Would you need to access this ftp server as well? If so, then I have to
work with IT on how long to keep files etc.
Hudson uses jboss-qa-internal(a)redhat.com to send mail to jbossesb-tests(a)googlegroups.com.
Please add this to the safe list.
Once I set up linux compeltely, I will work on windows.

ftp.ncl.jboss.com is the local ftp server in the Newcastle office (where we currently run
the CI). You would not have access to those machines.
I do not believe we would need access to your ftp server as long as we could contact the
person administering it.
I have asked Mark to add the email address to the test google group.
I will have a look at adding similar tasks into our build system (we are not part of AS
and do not use buildmagic), but this is likely to be a low priority task for us. Is there
an issue with leaving the AS running?

There are two issues with to leave AS running:
1. Other testsuite that also requires running AS wont be able to start another instance on
the same machine.
2. It will avoid potential problems like you saw with windows which required cleaning up
data and temp folder.

Okay, for some reason I was under the impression that this was a clean machine for our
purposes. I wasn't aware it was being shared with other testsuites.
The issue with windows has only ever happened once, in all the time the CI has been
running. Still not sure what caused JNDI to lose entries.
There is slightly more to starting the server than the above script but it will be very
similar. As the test machine is being shared I will look at this very soon.

I will change it to build every hour. I pickedc 12 hours because that's how
frequeently CC runs other builds.
Regarding notificaiton, the hudson version we have set up does not allow much

Prabhat is talking with the Hudson devs to fix the emailing issue and has currently set

How freqeuntly we run the build or how frequently hudson should poll repository can be
controlled right now.
Regarding e-mail notification, that's how hudson devs decided to do it and I have
already raised the issue to make an option to send status everytime regardless of build
status. One of my team mate is working on the patch and will suggest to hudson dev to
incorporate. Apparently, lot of people who use hudson were happy with this default
behavior and it was not made a priority. :-)

There are still a number of changes that we would require before hudson is equivalent to
the current CI system.
We can close this (as a first stage) provided I can raise another to cover the following
issues.
- emails should be sent on every identified build, i.e. only when source code has
changed
- the repository should ideally be polled every 15 mins to detect changes
- the report should include emma coverage
and, perhaps most important
- hudson builds have to be reliable
There have been a number of transient 'failures' reported by hudson when our CI
build has been succeeding.
