[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1102) Support detection/registration/installation of undeclared dependent facets
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1102?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds updated FORGE-1102:
-----------------------------------
Summary: Support detection/registration/installation of undeclared dependent facets (was: Support detection of undeclared dependent facets)
> Support detection/registration/installation of undeclared dependent facets
> --------------------------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: FORGE-1102
> URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1102
> Project: Forge
> Issue Type: Feature Request
> Affects Versions: 1.3.3.Final
> Reporter: Vineet Reynolds
> Fix For: 2.x Future
>
>
> Based on FORGE-1101, facets that are not declared via {{@RequiresFacet}} may not be visible via {{Project.hasFacet()}} at the right time since the {{ProjectFactory}}'s registry may not process these facets in the right order. It would be a good idea to hint the {{ProjectFactory}} that a particular Facet may have to be registered.
> To explain further, the {{RestFacet}} does not declare any dependencies on the {{RestWebXmlFacet}} and the {{RestApplicationFacet}}. These facets are therefore not always detected via the {{project.hasFacet()}} invocations.
> Declaring them as facets via a {{@RequiresOnlyOneFacet}} annotation could be one solution to ensure that only one facet within a group should be sufficient to satisfy the desired constraints on a Faceted type. Likewise, we could also add support for optional facets that are may be installed if possible, via a {{@OptionalFacets}} annotation.
> This would probably be better supported in 2.x instead of 1.x.

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1030) Support multi-module Forge plugins
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1030?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds commented on FORGE-1030:
----------------------------------------
Tests are skipped for single-module builds, like so, in the {{ForgePlugin}} class:
{{Resource<?> artifact = project.getFacet(PackagingFacet.class).createBuilder().runTests(false).build();}}
That provides the {{-Dmaven.test.skip=true}} argument to the Maven build. I suppose this is not occurring correctly in multi-module builds.

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1100) Project-scoped Configuration object is not accessible in isInstall() method.
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1100?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds commented on FORGE-1100:
----------------------------------------
And here's why the project configuration is not available during {{Facet.isInstalled()}}:
{code:title=ProjectInitializer.java}
private final CurrentProject cp;
...
public void doInit(@Observes final InitProject event)
{
DirectoryResource currentDirectory = shell.getCurrentDirectory();
Project newProject = null;
try
{
final DirectoryResource newRoot = projectFactory.findProjectRootRecusively(currentDirectory);
if (newRoot != null)
{
Project oldProject = cp.getCurrent();
if (oldProject != null)
{
...
}
else
{
newProject = projectFactory.findProjectRecursively(currentDirectory); // <-- invokes Facets registration
}
}
if (newProject != null)
{
shell.getEnvironment().setProperty("PROJECT_NAME",
newProject.getFacet(MetadataFacet.class).getProjectName());
}
}
finally
{
cp.setCurrentProject(newProject); // <-- Sets the CurrentProject after Facet registration
}
{code}
Since the current project is set only after registration of all facets have been attempted, the configuration associated with the project is not available after they were first required. Until then the user configuration is provided to the facets. I think we should make the current project available to the facets in some manner, but without incurring the side-effects of the {{ProjectChanged}} event.

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1030) Support multi-module Forge plugins
by Lincoln Baxter III (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1030?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Lincoln Baxter III commented on FORGE-1030:
-------------------------------------------
I agree. I think that the skipTests property should be set by the build, but I was under the impression that we already did so, so perhaps something is wrong there? Our single-module installation already skips the tests AFAIK.

> It seems that Forge really needs better support for the default Maven
> development process. In repository.yaml, Forge plugins are defined by giving
> a Maven project GAV for the project holding the forge plugin definitions, as well as the GitHub repository holding the plugin source.
> Yet, Forge seems to ignore the Maven GAV information given in repository.yaml when checking out and building the plugin locally.
> This is a rather nasty bug, which in its current state effectively prevents anyone from using a multi-module build for their plugins (and it is also undocumented).

by Lennart Jörelid (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1030?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Lennart Jörelid edited comment on FORGE-1030 at 8/10/13 2:55 AM:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The profile is finished and pushed to GitHub, implying that the reactor builds without breaking if the {{skipTests}} property is set as per above.
I would suggest that the best way of firing a Forge plugin installation build is to add that property to the build, as it:
# Is compliant with the standard surefire behavior
# Does not require a particular name for the created profile
I would also suggest adding a documentation section describing this.
Fixing/pushing a patch.

> # The repository.yaml includes a full Maven GAV to the project which holds Forge plugins.
> # Forge uses repository.yaml to download the source from GitHub and build it
> # Forge ignores the Maven GAV given in repository.yaml, and simply uses the root reactor project to inspect and attempt to install the plugins.
> To fix this bug, Forge needs to find the project given within the repository.yaml within the downloaded reactor and install the plugins from *that* project.

[JBoss JIRA] (FORGE-1100) Project-scoped Configuration object is not accessible in isInstall() method.
by Vineet Reynolds (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/FORGE-1100?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Vineet Reynolds commented on FORGE-1100:
----------------------------------------
I cannot seem to get this to work in the AngularJS scaffold. I tried several options:
* Declaring the {{ConfigurationFacet}} as required, like so: {{@RequireFacet(\{ConfigurationFacet.class,...\}) public class AngularScaffold...}} but then this does not seem to return the project-scoped Configuration object.
* Installing the {{ConfigurationFacet}} facet in {{isInstalled()}} when it cannot find it, but that results in the following exception:

I suspect it works in the test for this issue, because the project scope is activated due to the test harness, and also because the facet is manually installed in the project. The facet installation process would ensure that the project context is made available to obtain the right config object.
