i agree with mark!
please keep in mind that a lot of projects have to use one ear to deploy different (and unrelated) applications.
-> @ApplicationScoped per web-app (and not per ear) makes a lot of sense!
since we already have @Singleton out there - we should reuse it instead of introducing a new annotation.
-> +1 for using @Singleton for beans across applications within an ear.
