Paul Benedict commented on HHH-3205:
------------------------------------

Arjan, Steve is not asking for anything extraordinary. Your reasoning is not all bad, but there are a couple things required to get your patch submitted:

 * Check out the existing Hibernate tests. Verify that when you patch your local Hibernate, nothing currently regresses.
 * Provide a small test that shows demonstrates the lazy ability of the two modified XML elements. That shouldn't be too difficult.

Steve does need to make sure nothing unintended happens. While you are correct nothing should regress, he would have to be accountable if it did. If you really want this feature, take the time and help bring your efforts to completion.

> The dtd found at http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/hibernate-mapping-3.0.dtd is does not specify a lazy propery for the <map-key-many-to-many> and <index-many-to-many>. As a result it is impossible to create a map which doesn't lazy-load it's key value. (default-lazy="false" does not help either.)
> Using a custom dtd (see attached patch) the lazy property can be specified and works as expected.
