You'll have to be more specific on what "security setting" you're talking about.  If it helps, thus far I've done all configuration via the admin gui, not the xml files (as this is how we expect to use it with any portal vendor).  I've tried several combinations of the security settings on the portal itself.  I've given each role "View" and "View Recursive" on this portal.  You can see my additional comment on the forum post.
