This is weird. If you enter the URL

http://localhost:8080

then you get the home page

but if you enter the URL

http://localhost:8080/jmx-console

you get "Unable to connect"

I am at a loss because both URLs have the same hostname and port number. I have no idea why that hostname and port would be accepted for one request but not for the other.

Is it possible that JBossAS shut down after the first request? After you get the error on the jmx-console URL, can you go back and access the home page again?
