The Java 5 req was/is mostly because of the underlying EAP/AS server.

The plugins for JBDS 1.x and JBT 2.x could run with JDK 1.4 and JDK 5, but had known issues under JDK 6.

For JBDS 2.x and JBT 3.x we are targeting JDK 5 (no JDK 1.4) and if we don't hear/see any issues with respect to JDK 6 we will be ok with that too.
