This is the right behaviour IMHO. You should use this to get the path /webservice/MyWebservice:

  |     <servlet-name>MyWebservice</servlet-name>
  |     <servlet-class>com.mycompany.webservices.MyWebservice</servlet-class>
  |   </servlet>
  |   <servlet-mapping>
  |     <servlet-name>MyWebservice</servlet-name>
