Does it work if you use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox (well, even if it works, i would still be puzzled as to why telnet command does not work).

Which version of Windows OS are you using? And when you say "No access/output" when using http://localhost:8080 what exactly does it mean? Do you see any messages on the status bar of the browser like "Connecting to ...." or "Waiting for ...." or "Opening page....". Also, does anything get updated in the server.log when you access this URL?

I was thinking if you could install a tool like HTTPDebugger (http://www.httpdebugger.com/download.html) which might help analyze what's going on when you access the server with that URL. But before installing this, let's see if can figure out any other possible reasons.
