Not Mac specific, I 've seen it happen on windows too. Not sure why it happens  but fixable by doing:

Window > Preferences > Java > Editor > Content Assist > Advanced and make sure the "Type proposals" field is enabled in the upper box.

I have no idea why that would ever get unchekked automatically ;(
