Only reason I can think to not move is fear of losing history, which you've said is no great concern.

Moving an eclipse plugin into the JBT repo makes perfect sense to me, if it's open source and plans to be part of JBT. 

Using the new Buckminster Aggregator, I'm also hoping to get the JBT update site to include maven metadata ("mavenized modules") so that it can be used with Maven tooling too, in addition to Eclipse's p2 update mechanism.
